REA draws attention as developers use it to reverse engineer WeChat, Alipay and Douyin
Reverse Engineer Anything, or REA, has become one of the fastest-rising open-source projects on GitHub, with the article saying it collected more than 14,000 stars in a single day and now stands at 41,000. The toolkit connects to agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI through the MCP protocol, then lets those systems call a broad set of reverse engineering tools across binaries, websites, Android APKs, .NET assemblies, firmware and EVM bytecode.
The report says community members have already used REA to inspect software ranging from Adobe products and Google apps to Codex, Claude Code, WeChat, Alipay and Douyin. At the same time, the project page includes a clear disclaimer that it is meant only for lawful, authorized reverse engineering research.
The core argument in the article is that REA can expose client-side logic, local storage issues, interface behavior and third-party component versions, but it still cannot directly see the server-side systems where payment risk controls, recommendation models, account systems and social graphs run. For ordinary users, the article argues there is no immediate reason to panic. For large internet platforms, though, it describes REA as a serious new pressure point because agents can keep analyzing targets around the clock and sift through huge volumes of code and call relationships for suspicious leads.
